Hey fellow Freshmen! How is the first week of college treating you? I don't know about the rest of you, but the thing I have found the most surprising about my first week here at Glenville is how many fun activites there are to take part in. I hardly know which ones to choose!
It would probably help if I told you a little bit about myself. My name is Darcy. The two most impportant things it might help to learn about me are: a) I was born and raised in Europe, and b) I was homeschooled. That means my upbringing and cultural identity are probably quite different from most of my fellow students. Add that to having been home-schooled my entire childhood, and the whole college experience feels pretty foreign to me. The adjustment to campus life will take some time for all of us, but I know we'll get there.
Speaking of adjustments, this whole blogging thing is a new world for me. As I venture into the Blogosphere, I hope you will come along with me. I'm sure your suggestions and feedback will steer my path in the right direction. Don't be too hard on me as I share my thoughts and opinions with you, and feel free to share your own with me. Together we'll make Freshmen year our....(ahem!)beach.
Oh, and those aforementioned activities? I think I will go check out that water slide now. Maybe I'll see you there. Chat with you again soon. In the meantime, enjoy this completely unrelated photo of my adorable kitten.

As it often pulls from literature, being well read also allows one to better appreciate various forms of entertainment. Reading a book that others also read or have read is means of social connection. Unfortunately, in today’s world, our time is limited. So many demands are placed upon our time, we often don't have the leisure time required to become fully engrossed in a lengthy novel. Despite this, there is a solution: mini books. (I, a lover of all things miniature, am intrigued by this concept.) "Mini books are designed to be consumed in one or two sittings, which is exactly what today’s busy readers love” (Thompson). Do ...
