An article on the Longreads website called “Big Love” is about the bizarre bond between a woman and an elephant who’s faced numerous challenges to reunite and remain together. One may become engrossed within his or her life, either by conflict by the uncertainty of his or her future. However, Carol Buckley did not have to worry nor fear, “[s]he was studying exotic animal management at a community college, figuring that would set her on an exciting career path. Seeing an elephant stroll past her door seemed like fate” (“Big Love”). The affection and devotion of Carol Buckley towards Tarra the elephant was greater than the spotlight of the entertainment industry and society. The inseparable bond between the two, as their ability to form trust within their friendship grew stronger throughout their lives. The Stories within the Trenches.

A poem by Wilfred Wilson Gibson called “The Messages” makes me feel dishearten about others who have suffered within the bloodshed of World War 1, including the loss of loved ones. The soldiers who served on the British army and the American army were faced with complications and hardship within the war, both physically and mentally. Those who fought were either killed, wounded or captured, or suffered greatly from the trauma inflicted upon the war. The stories of those who served or those who were wounded cannot compare nor describe the daunting truth behind their experiences. For example, the speaker states, “I cannot quite remember…” (Gibson). In addition, those who were either injured or on the verge of death were unable to express themselves nor were aware of the situation around them. Spooky, yet soothing.

An article by Paris F. Fields called “ Why is Silent Hill So [Cozy]? ” is about the unexpected feeling of comfort within a horror game. Silent Hill is a notorious horror game with an eerie atmosphere and its elements provide an illusion of being either watched or followed by a supernatural spirit. In addition, the fog creates a ghostly atmosphere within game. Therefore, why have others reported a sense of comfort and security whilst engaging the game? For example, Field states, “[t]here are a good number of players who also find comfort in the fog…When the town is in the fog world, it becomes shrouded in – you guessed it – fog. Moss is often overlooked by those who are unaware of its significance within the environment, in addition “[w]hile easily ignored, mosses provide many benefits to the world around them. Not only are they a source of food and shelter for vertebrates and invertebrates, but they also aid in carbon sequestration and support multiple ecosystem services” (Klein). Therefore, everything and everyone has a purpose; including mosses. An article by H.M.A. Leow called “The Surprising Imperial History of the Pekingese Dog” is about the feminine empowerment amongst British women in the early 1900s. The Pekingese is a charming breed of toy dog. originating from China. In addition, the Pekingese was historically favored by royalty of the Chinese Imperial government, as affectionate companions towards their owners. Furthermore, England in the early 1900s became fixated with this breed; the British women who had used this breed to symbolize their social status and identities amongst others within their communities.
